Summary

This position is responsible for prepping and building new samples, receiving and shipping completed samples, quality checks when samples are completed, completion of projects on time while maintaining sample platform inventory. The role will also contribute up to the paint and other sample technician(s). This role supports other departments and United Wheels companies with technical and mechanical support both on and off site. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews initially submitted spec and determines if there are any challenges in completing the project. Individual will collaborate with the project originator if there are any questions.  
  • Strips samples for painting and reassembles after painting complete. Samples may need components changed out without stripping the entire sample for painting. Individual will need to have strong attention to detail and care for assembly to provide complete samples with all correct components and no damage to the paint or product.    
  • Learn how to paint samples and components to allow for split coverage with the Paint Technician. Individual will be required to paint at least 35% of samples to work on improving skills and efficiency as well as retain the processes to ensure high quality of samples.  
  • Cooperate in a team environment with the paint and other sample technician(s). Communication skills will be necessary to determine who will be completing what task as well as timeframe of when projects need to be complete. If there are any difficulties in completing projects and assistance is needed to meet the deadline, Manager should be informed as soon as possible to assist.  
  • Upkeeps the Bicycle Display Showroom. All samples within the Showroom must be reviewed on a weekly basis for quality and condition. Samples to remain “show ready” at all times. When there are other customer meetings, individual will need to move out the Huffy Line samples and replace with customer meeting samples. After customer meeting, individual will be responsible for resetting the Showroom with the Huffy Line samples.  
  • Keeps an inventory of completed samples in the bullpen or other designated storage areas. Tracks sample checkouts and updates parking spot changes.
  • Provides technical and mechanical support to other departments and United Wheels companies off site and at other United Wheels facilities. 
  • Prepares, packs, and ships products and equipment as requested. Includes building crates or pallets as needed. 
  • Driving to local vendors to pick up or drop off supplies or service company vehicles.
  • Participates in special projects outside of the normal operation of Sample Services to facilitate new initiatives which use similar skills or equipment normally used in sample processes. 
  • Provides daily cleaning and organization to the Sample Shop. Work bench is clean at end of day with all tools properly put away and locked. Trash cans are empty when full and always include a trash bag. Any empty boxes are thrown away and any components not used on samples are put in the proper location. Loading dock reviewed on a daily basis with new inventory stored in proper locations. On a monthly or quarterly basis, individual will need to remove old samples and components as they are not being used on future requests and are taking up space for new products.  
  • Maintains an excel document with the sample platform inventory. This includes any box sample and any built samples. Inventory should be reviewed on a weekly basis and maintained for use. The Manager will use this information daily to determine if additional platforms are needed for future demands.  
  • Follow Shop safety and environmental protocols. Report equipment or personnel failures.  
  • Completion of productivity and job packet paperwork daily. Provide recommendations for process improvement to increase shop efficiency and output.

Competencies 

Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a highly dynamic and changeable environment.

Education and/or Experience 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associate Degree preferred.  Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office software products.   Knowledge of bicycles and their components required; one to three years of experience in bicycle mechanics and assembly. Experience troubleshooting electronics with multimeters.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

None required.  Valid Driver’s License. Will become Bosch certified for e bike products, will receive forklift operation certificate, will receive Gema powder coating maintenance and operation certificate.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

To create samples, individual may need to use machinery or chemicals to receive the desired result.  Liquid and powder paint booth on site.  

Individual will be required to have a base line hearing exam within 30 days of employment and a yearly hearing exam. This position requires the incumbent to utilize hearing protection during any time spent in the Sample Shop area. If there is a change in facility layout or location, individual will be required to participate in an industrial hygiene test to determine daily noise level.

Individual will be required to complete a Respirator Fit Questionnaire and Respirator Fit Testing within 30 days of employment and every three years. When operating the liquid paint booth, individual will be required to wear a half mask respirator for protection. If there is a change in facility layout, facility location, or liquid paint booth is changed or altered, individual will be required to participate in an industrial hygiene test to determine air quality level.
