Job Summary

The Human Resources Manager is a full-service position that serves the needs of the organization and its strategic objectives through on-going interaction with team members, the President, senior staff, and the Board of Directors. The HR Manager is responsible for all aspects of La Sportiva’s employee benefits administration, staff training, dispute resolution, onboarding and offboarding, payroll, policies and employee handbook, and administration of our third-party HR software systems. The role will lead La Sportiva’s justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (“JEDI”) initiatives such that they align with our mission, values and growth.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be compassionate and approachable in serving the needs of a diverse group of full-time and part-time staff
  • Be responsible for HR administrative duties and tailoring benefits in the most cost effective yet beneficial ways for staff; communicate with team members to ensure they fully understand their benefits and utilize them appropriately
  • Manage the full cycle of employee requirements from the day team members start until the day they leave
  • Partner with senior leadership on the creation of a JEDI framework, including the development of a shared language and vision within the context of La Sportiva’s mission and values
    • Craft and drive implementation of a comprehensive JEDI strategy that articulates goals and provides a roadmap for programmatic, operational, and organizational culture initiatives
    • Develop, track, and report out regularly on JEDI metrics and outcomes
  • Identify staff training needs and, working with appropriate resources, help them to achieve meaningful professional development
  • Assist with employee recruitment and job postings
  • Research and keep abreast of compliance and regulatory issues and ensure that La Sportiva complies with federal and local employment laws
  • Assist senior leadership with the goal of making La Sportiva the best place to work in Boulder
  • Handle all matters with the utmost discretion and confidentiality
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and a desire to lead a full-service HR department
  • Ability to perform a thorough up-front audit, as well as on-going audits, of the HR function to identify any gaps that exist
  • Projects professional demeanor and demonstrates punctuality, dependability, good organization, accuracy, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills 
  • A working knowledge of current federal employment practices and state statutes in CO
  • Experience filing regulatory reports related to benefit plans (e.g. healthcare, 401k)
  • A willingness to develop relationships with both internal and external partners for the purpose of advancing JEDI initiatives
  • Workers’ compensation insurance reporting and management
  • Demonstrates strong customer service skills, in all areas – face-to-face, telephone, written correspondence, and e-mail
  • Is knowledgeable about the basics of Human Resources, with the ability to ensure the organization is legally compliant in matters related to hiring and managing employees
  • Exceptional negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Possesses strong skills with budget development and tracking
  • Creates and updates electronic files and reports, as needed
  • Computer Skills – Is proficient with spreadsheet software and program management software, as well as with e-mail and other basic software tools
  • Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to follow-through on all tasks timely, working without close supervision, and under tight time constraints 
  • Handles and safeguards confidential information and sensitive material
  • Able to act independently as appropriate, as well as to discern when escalation is necessary

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience as an HR Manager or being responsible for all aspects of human resource management
  • Past experience leading initiatives to build equitable and healthy workplace cultures, including strategic planning, implementation, and project management
  • College degree required
  • Experience with ADP a plus

 

Certificates / Licenses:

Credible Human Resources certifications preferred, including one or more of the following:

SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position may ultimately have hiring and supervisory responsibilities as the organization grows
  • Responsible for managing HR-related vendor relationships

 

Work Environment

  • 37+ hour standard work week requirement
  • Office environment with appropriate workspace and equipment needed for position are provided
  • Occasional long periods of sitting, walking, and standing
  • Position requires regular interaction with a variety of constituents, including team members and vendors

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a schedule of Monday through Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes, but is not limited to, the following:
